i was gonna say that maybe it was a tongue in cheek thing, or that he was being purposefully ironic, or that he was specifically trying to confuse people by being ambiguously extreme.

i see the irony.
one time i was on spring break in gulf shores..when this idiot in a rage against the machine shirt tried to hit on me..needless to say it did not go well for him..but during his attempt he mentioned the fact that he loved "rage"..and i was like..well i think they are aweful as a band..but at least they made more kids politically aware..and i think that is a good thing. he then blew up on me for like 5 mins..on how wrong i was..and blah..blah blah..and how much better the world is because of them...and i was like well..to reconsider my point..i don't think they have done alot of good..and he starting going on again about their influence..so i asked him..are you registered to vote? and he said no.
i walked away.
your story is example number two in my life of the meaningless of their stickers..or shirts..or fans..to the actual political impact they have had.
meaningless.
their fans should be shot.

By the way, I heard Phil was closing. The news broke my heart. I may have to come back to Montgomery just to wish him a fond farewell.

yeah..he has threatened many times..but those best buyers..(they know who they are)..will run all of our independent music stores out of business.
plus he can just smoke pot at home now..and feel free to do so in boxers so that his bubblegum psych pop will not run anyone off.
maybe moby grape will get him through his lonely nights and bubble puppy through his lonley mornings..
i remember going there the week of opening and ordering a sonic youth cd. probley the first cd i ever owned..and thinking.."this is really cool"..i could not have been older than 14...
weird.
i am going to take photos..not that i don't have a hundred of all of us standing around..running our mouths..maybe i will do a post of them one day.

shree, rage fans are just that. fans. we are not to be taken as a political force, nor should we be expected to make ANY kind of political impact.
